Name of Submitters: Jason Soderblom, Jim Bell, Matt Golombek, Bob Deen Institution: Cornell University/JPL/NASA Theme/Team/Group: Pancam Sol of Observation: 3 Earth date of Observation: January 6, 2004 UTC Title of Image: A smoother view of Mars Caption: This part of the mission success panorama was taken on Sol 3 by the panoramic camera on the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit looking to the southwest. This martian scene shows little variation in local topography, though a narrow peak only seven to eight kilometers away is visible on the horizon to the right. A circular depression in the foreground, similar to Sleepy Hollow in the opposite direction, is in the center of the mosaic. The overall surface shows a sparse distribution of rocks compared to those seen by the Viking and Pathfinder landers.
