This computer generated visualization depicts an overhead view of the trajectory the Spirit lander took into Gusev Crater. It also shows velocity vectors that convey how the TIRS/DIMES system reduced the horizontal speed of the lander just before touchdown. 

The descent to the surface and bouncing along the surface are depicted as a blue line. The steady state horizontal velocity computed by DIMES at Rad rocket fire is depicted as a cyan arrow; the total of steady state and Rad rocket induced horizontal velocity, had TIRS not fired, is indicated with a magenta arrow; and the resultant velocity of the lander after TIRS fired is shown with a yellow arrow.
