TITLE Spirit takes the helm DESCRIPTION This animation shows Spirit driving itself through rocky terrain on Sol 118 (Sunday night). It spotted a 25cm rock (bigger than its wheels) about halfway through, and drove around to its left. At the end of its traverse, it encountered several more scary-looking rocks, but since they were only 12cm tall (less than half the wheel height) it just drove right over them. In all, Spirit used its autonav software to drive itself through 55 meters of its record-setting 92.7 meter drive today!
