The Columbia Hills in Color NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit used its panoramic camera to take the images that make up this full-resolution mosaic of the Columbia Hills. Spirit acquired these images on sol 131, when she sat less than one kilometer (0.62 miles) away from her target at the base of the hills. Spirit will reach the base before sol 160 and begin an in-depth exploration of the interesting geologic features that make these hills such a target of opportunity. The image is approximately 5300 pixels wide and 400 pixels high and was assembled from six adjacent sets of panoramic camera images. It is an approximate true-color rendering made from the camera's 750 nm, 530 nm, and 480 nm filters. A small amount of image processing filtering was applied to bring out some of the subtle geologic details found in the hills.
